  1. S. FAUSTI - The ministry of Jesus is called light, beginning of the creation. His coming is "Lord's day," predicted by the prophets, that makes end to the night of the world.
The pagans too, have seen the light of His star, that has set them on the way to Jerusalem.
As the darkness is a symbol of evil and death, so the light is a symbol of goodness and life.
The light is great, it rises in the heart of darkness. Like the sentinels in the morning, so the man desires the light (Ps 130.6).
Jesus sat when teaching with the Word, walks when He teaches with His life.
He is the Word and the Way: He has to be listened to and followed, like the cloud that drives the people to the promised land. The disciples are called to make his own way, shining for those who goes towards freedom and obscure for the others. It 's the transition from darkness to light, the coming into the light. Of the new man.
The first action of Jesus is a "vocation".
The creation too is a vocation, a call from nothing.
His calling me by name is my own existence in my truth: my ego is my name called by God !.
To know how He calls me is to reach my identity.
"The people who sat in darkness saw a great light." As at the beginning "God said," and from chaos there was light, so the Lord calls my name, and I come to light and I am light: I am the son !.
The call is in pairs of brothers, because the Son calls to the fraternity; and the calls are two ,
because two is the beginning of many. Beyond the first one , there is always another one , received by each of us.
The disciples will become "fishers of men", as Jesus, the Son, who fishes the brothers from the abyss of their sins . Fished by Him, they become like Him: children who made themselves brothers of all the lost ones.
He, just after the call, told them the Sermon on the Mount, where He revealed their identity and that of the Father.
They will understand better their call when, in turn, they will be sent for fishing.
The two scenes of calling are twins. The different details of the one clarify those of the other one.
The result is a unique framework : Jesus walks, sees, calls the fishermen for another fishing , and they leave their nets, boat and father, and follow Him. These are the elements of every vocation, which begins with the feet of Jesus walking toward us, and ends with our feet walking behind to follow Him.
The beginning is "to see" and " to call" by Him , that makes us leave everything and " to follow" Him, to be with Him and like Him. His saying and His making "fishes" the men from death, returning them to life.
Jesus is traveling, the Son in the fishing of His brothers , is Apostle's model, the Shepherd who seeks the lost sheep.
For the four fishers of men it begins the apprenticeship of new fisheries.
The ministry of Jesus begins in Galilee and then will expand to all roads of the world.
The call of the first two pairs of brothers is extended, in perspective, at all Palestine, to extend at the end of the Gospel to all peoples. The men will be "fished" by the water and baptized in the Spirit.

  2. Alleluia Mt 4:23
    R. Alleluia, alleluia.
Jesus proclaimed the Gospel of the kingdom
and cured every disease among the people.
    R. Alleluia, alleluia.

    Gospel MT 4:12-23
When Jesus heard that John had been arrested,
    he withdrew to Galilee.
He left Nazareth and went to live in Capernaum by the sea,
in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali,
that what had been said through Isaiah the prophet
    might be fulfilled:
Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali,
the way to the sea, beyond the Jordan,
    Galilee of the Gentiles,
the people who sit in darkness have seen a great light,
on those dwelling in a land overshadowed by death
    light has arisen.
From that time on, Jesus began to preach and say,
"Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."

As he was walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers,
Simon who is called Peter, and his brother Andrew,
casting a net into the sea; they were fishermen.
    He said to them,
"Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men."
At once they left their nets and followed him.
He walked along from there and saw two other brothers,
James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John.
They were in a boat, with their father Zebedee, mending their nets.
He called them, and immediately they left their boat and their father
    and followed him.
He went around all of Galilee,
teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom,
and curing every disease and illness among the people.
