  1. S. FAUSTI - "Listen to Him!", the voice says from heaven Indeed, "this is my Son, the Beloved, in Whom I pleased !" The Father speaks only twice saying and repeating the same thing. He proclaims Jesus as the Son for the first time after the Baptism (3:17) and a second time here, after the prediction of His death and resurrection (16:21). The transfiguration is the confirmation of the way undertaken in Baptism, ahead of the Easter glory. In its light the "Servant" begins the way to Jerusalem.
Just as brothers's Servant, the Son of man is the Beloved Son, the Word itself to listen to, the irradiation of the Glory of the Father, the Messiah Who saves us.
The Father confirms what Jesus had just said: He recognizes the One who agrees to be recognized by Peter as the Christ and the Son of God (16:16), the One who affirms to be the suffering Servant, that Peter does not accept (16, 21-23), the One who calls to His same way (16,24), and declares Himself the Judge of the world (16,27).
In front of three men, the Son of man is proclaimed by the Father as His Son.
The Father has only one Word, which fully revealed Himself : the Son.
He says to us to listen to Him, because, listening to Him, we become like Him, children.
The transfiguration is the fundamental experience of the life of Jesus: the choice made in the Baptism, which now takes form in the perspective of the cross, it is confirmed as the way to freedom and to the Glory of God.
It is an interior enlighting ,so much strong that "transforms" His own Body into sun and light.
Light is the most appropriate symbol of God : principle of creation and knowledge that makes all things being as they are and shows them for what they are. But it is also source of joy, sign of the love that makes radiant . The Son shines of the same light of God, the novelty of the new creation : how everything is done through Him, in Him and for Him, so everything takes part to His same fate in the light.
We too are called to see the Lord face to face (1Cor13,12) and to reflect His glory with our unveiled faces , until we are trasformed in Him (2 Corinthians 3:18), configured to the icon of the Son, the firstborn among many brothers . We too are called to clothe us with light and to be light:
"Arise, shine out, for your light has come and the glory of the Lord shines on you" (Is 60.1).
Love is realized in the exchange of what they have and they are, so that the beloved becomes the shape of those who love him. The incarnation that leads to the cross (baptism) makes God like us; the transfiguration, pledge of resurrection, makes us equal to Him. Not only our spirit, but also our body is for the Lord, destined to resurrection.

  2. -->It is important also for the disciples having seen Him: when He shall rose again, they will understand that the Risen One is the same Jesus who was crucified. Peter understood that it is beautiful!
On the Face of the Son appears the original beauty in which God had created the world.
Here is nice to be. Elsewhere it is bad and we cannot stay, because we are not what we are.
The Transfiguration of the Son also represents the advance of what we will be.
The seed of our divine glory is thrown when we decide to really "listen" to Him and to do His Word: this is the " shape" that transforms our lifein the image of His, to its full extent.
The law, given through Moses, is the first shelter of God among men. The prophecy that began with Elijah, is the second shelter of God among men.
The flesh of Jesus is the definitive shelter of God among us (Jn 1:14). In him we see His glory as of the only Son from the Father. Indeed "he who has seen me has seen the Father" (Jn 14,9).
Jesus in His humanity, shows the deity: the disciples see His Body which shines of Glory of the Son in whom the Father is well pleased, anticipated ray of the Resurrection.
The Church is represented by the three apostles who, with unveiled face, reflecting as in a mirror the Glory of the Lord, they are changed into the same image from glory to glory, this is the working of the Spirit of the Lord (2 Cor.3.18) .

  3. Reading 1 GN 12:1-4A

    The LORD said to Abram:
"Go forth from the land of your kinsfolk
and from your father's house to a land that I will show you.

"I will make of you a great nation,
    and I will bless you;
I will make your name great,
so that you will be a blessing.
I will bless those who bless you
and curse those who curse you.
All the communities of the earth
    shall find blessing in you."

Abram went as the LORD directed him.
    Responsorial Psalm PS 33:4-5, 18-19, 20, 22.

    R. (22) Lord, let your mercy be on us, as we place our trust in you.
Upright is the word of the LORD,
and all his works are trustworthy.
    He loves justice and right;
of the kindness of the LORD the earth is full.
    R. Lord, let your mercy be on us, as we place our trust in you.
See, the eyes of the LORD are upon those who fear him,
upon those who hope for his kindness,
    To deliver them from death
and preserve them in spite of famine.
    R. Lord, let your mercy be on us, as we place our trust in you.
Our soul waits for the LORD,
who is our help and our shield.
May your kindness, O LORD, be upon us
who have put our hope in you.
    R. Lord, let your mercy be on us, as we place our trust in you.
    Reading 2 2 TM 1:8B-10

    Beloved:
Bear your share of hardship for the gospel
with the strength that comes from God.

He saved us and called us to a holy life,
    not according to our works
but according to his own design
and the grace bestowed on us in Christ Jesus before time began,
    but now made manifest
through the appearance of our savior Christ Jesus,
who destroyed death and brought life and immortality
    to light through the gospel.
Verse Before The Gospel CF. MT 17:5

From the shining cloud the Father's voice is heard:
This is my beloved Son, hear him.
    Gospel MT 17:1-9

Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother,
and led them up a high mountain by themselves.
    And he was transfigured before them;
his face shone like the sun
and his clothes became white as light.
And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them,
    conversing with him.
Then Peter said to Jesus in reply,
"Lord, it is good that we are here.
If you wish, I will make three tents here,
one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah."
While he was still speaking, behold,
a bright cloud cast a shadow over them,
then from the cloud came a voice that said,
    "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased;
    listen to him."
When the disciples heard this, they fell prostrate
    and were very much afraid.
But Jesus came and touched them, saying,
"Rise, and do not be afraid."
And when the disciples raised their eyes,
they saw no one else but Jesus alone.

As they were coming down from the mountain,
    Jesus charged them,
"Do not tell the vision to anyone
until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead."
