A - THE TRANFIGURATION

  1. S. FAUSTI – "Listen to Him!" The voice from heaven says it!. Really "this is my Son, the beloved, He enjoys my favour!". The Father speaks only twice saying and repeating the same thing: He proclaims Jesus as Son a first time after Baptism (3:17) and a second time here after the prediction of His death and resurrection. The Transfiguration is the confirmation of the way undertaken in the Baptism, advance of Easter Glory.
In his light "the servant" begins his journey to Jerusalem.
Just as a servant of brothers, the Son of Man is the beloved Son, the Word itself to hear, the irradiation of the Glory of the Father, the Messiah who saves us.
The Father confirms so what Jesus has just said: He recognizes the One who accepts being recognized by Peter as the Christ and as the Son of God, the One who claims to be the suffering servant that Peter does not accept, the One who calls on his own way (16 , 24) and declares Himself as the judge of the world (16:27).
In front of three men, the Son of Man is proclaimed by the Father as His Son.
It is the end of the debate on who Jesus is and the beginning of His journey to Jerusalem.
The Father has one Word, which reveals Him fully: the Son.
He tells us to listen to Him, because listening to Him, we become like Him, children.
Transfiguration is the fundamental experience of Jesus' life: the choice made in Baptism, which is now concrete in the perspective of the cross, is confirmed as the way to freedom and glory od God..
It is an inner brightness so much strong that "transforms" His own Body into sunlight and light.
It is also important for the disciples to have seen Him.
When He will be Risen, they will be able to understand that the Risen One is Jesus Himself who was crucified.
The Transfiguration of the Son also represents the advance of what we will be.
The seed of our divine glory is thrown when we truly decide to "listen" to Him and to do His Word: this is the "shape" that transforms our lives in the image of His one , to its full measure.
Jesus, in His humanity, shows the divinity. The disciples see His Body glittering of the glory of the Son in whom the Father is pleased, the anticipated ray of the Resurrection.
The Church is represented by the three Apostles who, with their faces uncovered, reflect the Glory of the Lord as in a mirror, and are transformed into the same image from glory to glory , according to the action of the Spirit of the Lord (2 Cor 3:18) .

  2. Matthew 17:1-9

    The Transfiguration
17 After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. 2 There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light. 3 Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus.

4 Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.”

5 While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!”

6 When the disciples heard this, they fell facedown to the ground, terrified. 7 But Jesus came and touched them. “Get up,” he said. “Don’t be afraid.” 8 When they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus.

9 As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus instructed them, “Don’t tell anyone what you have seen, until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.”
