A - 4 SUN. ADVENT

  1. .S. FAUSTI – Joseph comes in the genesis of the Son of God through the act of faith that accepts "the addition of God," given in Mary, the humble daughter of Sion. He is THE shape of every man, who"too big to be self-sufficient" (Pascal), is held open to his mystery, and his mystery is God Hitself.
They can endlessly wait the Messiah; but needlessly. In fact, He has already come, and waits until there he is one able to receive Him . The gift is already done, for Israel and for the Gentiles: this is the perspective of Matthew.
The question is how to welcome Him.
The story is made for the reader, because it scuold happen to him what happened to Joseph.
The "Angel" for us is the text itself, that remember his experience, so that it scould become ours too.
Joseph is the secret name of every man, finite, that wants
,infinitely ,rather that wants the '' infinite ', open to what transcends him, and only it can fill him.. Man is made for that, "divine addition": "You have made us for yourself, Lord, and our hearts are restless until it rests in You" (St Augustin).
"Do not be afraid to take Mary with you," says the angel to Joseph.
In fact, from her he will receive Jesus, the Son generated by the Spirit, God with us.
Faith in the Word establishes the relationship between us and God Itself.
For it, like Joseph, we welcome the One who has the power to make us children (Jn 1:12).
Everything is left to our responsibility to our ability to answer to the Word of God: this is His "Angel" that gives us the opportunity to welcome Him, to listen and to answer to Him.
The previous passage says as God comes in our history, this, however, as we come into His one. He takes our flesh as it is, we take Him as He offers Himself in Mary.
Joseph is the descendant of David, to whom God promised the Messiah.
But the One who promises He always com-promises Himself , and what promises to end it is Himself, compromised in His every promise.
The son of David will be not only the promised Messiah, but the Lord Yahweh Sabaoth Himself who promises.
The Son does not come from us. It comes from the Spirit because God is Spirit.
Joseph thinks of getting back because of the discretion and unworthiness.
But he is encouraged by the Angel to take the Mother and the Son. He must give the name to the One who is not his one : He is Other He is the Other Hitself, awaiting his "yes" to be his son, God-with-him, the One who saves him and any " to generate" from the loneliness of not being.
Joseph is presented henceforth as one who listens and makes real the Word.
The Church, as Joseph , "the dreamer" fulfills God's dream:
in silent adoration, through faith, welcomes the gift of the Son.
